Robot revolutions have been a favourite topic for science fiction writers for decades now, but could fiction soon become reality?
Recent years have seen Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology make significant and rapid improvements, until it’s now become an active and integral part of our lives. From our smartphones to dedicated virtual assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa, the robots are already here.
But these are only the most obvious manifestations of AI technology. Increasingly sophisticated AI is increasingly involved in running our complicated modern world behind the scenes, and this trend is set to accelerate dramatically in future years.
RS Online’s helpful infographic reveals that nearly 10 million roles in the UK alone are at risk of being automated in the next 15 years, with a full 54% of jobs within the catering industry set to be the victims.
The infographic also reveals that:
- 45% of arts, entertainment and recreation roles are at risk (showing that even creative jobs are not immune from AI).
- 34% of wholesale and retail trade workers could lose their positions.
- But only 9% of roles within education are thought to be in danger.
